EtsyMetal blog carnival- Show off your latest

Welcome to our EtsyMetal monthly Blog Carnival!
Blog Carnival is about a group of our members sharing their experience on a common topic.

Show off your latest!

I am currently working on my ring making, finally! I made these 2 rings at the weekend just to practice with the soldering, they are not good enough yet so I am still working on them.

I managed to mess up the sizing which is kinda crucial! I did treat myself to this new tool though to help me out, it's a ring stretcher and reducer, looks fancy!

I am also currently sawing out another butterfly, I think this next one is going to be a necklace though not a brooch this time around.

Check out what Laura has been working on over at her blog

Brooch a Week, the first month.

So I made my first 4 brooches/pins for January and it seemed to be a month of silhouettes and silver.  I don't mind though, this is what I like to make. I am just happy I have managed to stick to the challenge so far!
Next month I am hoping to use some base metals and maybe add some colour too.  I tend to settle on a design at the last minute so we will see.

Here is a mosaic for January.

New website, new pieces

First of all I have some new items in my etsy shop which I haven't blogged about yet!

Another pierced bird necklace with some stamping and also I have riveted on some sterling silver flowers.

This next one is slightly smaller and has the silver bird riveted on to a copper background, also with some stamped leaves.

Finally some poppy post earrings in oxidized silver which match this ring.

I have also made a new website with Big Cartel, at the moment it only has a few pieces in that are made to order items but I hope to be adding to them soon.  Etsy will still be my main site though and will have contain more of my intricate pieces, here is a screen shot.

Shop Update!

Hello all

I have had a little shop update these last couple of days, it was a bank holiday Monday just gone here in France and I managed to be quite productive!

I have stepped into the realm of rings and I quite like it.
First up I made an abstract poppy ring, I actually got the image from a fried egg but thought it look like an abstract flower once I had soldered in the central ball.

Next I made this rustic floral ring, I originally made it to fit me but as I am a large ring size and I wanted to put it into my shop, I re-sized it.

I have a couple more pieces which still need to be added, stay tuned!

New post earrings

I have just made these sweetheart post earrings, I actually made them for myself as I wanted a black pair but I decided to polish them a little and put them in my Etsy shop instead :)

They are cute and tiny and perfect for everyday wear.

Brand New!

Well one new and one recycled!

I made this tiny little heart necklace from sterling silver and it is slightly concave and has been oxidized too. More details here.

Then there is the missing piece necklace which used to be made from fine silver but this one is now made from sterling. You can see more details here.

My first RAW

I really to join in with RAW this year but the months past and I never got a ring made, partly because I kept putting it off having never made one before.

I then started taking a metalsmithing class every Friday night which I love, I have learnt a lot of fabricating techniques and my tool collection is growing fast, think I'm a bit of a tool addict!

I think I am starting to leave metal clay behind and work more with sheet metals, I love the piercing technique, cutting out intricate designs and filing to perfection.

So here is my first fabricated ring made in sterling silver, I couldn't decide if I wanted to oxidize it or not, maybe later.

Stuff I really, really want, part 2

I think I add things to my Etsy favourites everyday, there is just too many nice things out there!  I thought I would do my faves in jewellery this time around.

So this week first up are these super cute earrings from vickiorion.  I love the pink and green together, 2 of my favourite colours for sure.  Unfortunately they just sold :(

Next is this amazing charm bracelet from the etsy metal team.  The members who participated each made a charm for this piece which can also convert to a necklace.  Oh how I would love this :)

Books I'm Reading

I thought I would write about some new books I purchased that arrived today and yesterday.  I am looking to learn more about working with sterling silver and learn some metal smithing techniques especially soldering.  I got Tim Mc Creight's book "PMC Techniques, Hot & Cold Connections"  I have a had a browse through and it looks really good and informative.  I also bought Jinks McGrath's book "Jewellery Making- A Complete Guide For Beginners" and also Joanna Gollberg's book "The Art & Craft of Making Jewellery"  The latter I think is not really for the beginner, well it looked a little complicated for me anyway but it is nice to browse through and look at the gallery photo's. Jink's book I think will be a good start as it is more for the beginner after flicking through I am looking forward to having a more in depth read and giving a couple of the projects a go.

I havent made anything that new lately I have just been experimenting with some bits. I may have a couple of photos up tomorrow on flickr but I am not sure yet.
Other news us that we are moving again on the 14th April which means I have to get all my clay packed up so that will stall me for a couple of days or so but hopefully not too long. Too much packing to do and not enough time!

David is also a member of PCAGOE (polymer clay artists guild of etsy), go check out his shop its awesome.
